Thrifty Treasures

I find out the best stuff from Amanda! She posted about Today's Thrifty Treasures at Southern Hospitality. Well! That is right up my alley! I love to find some thrifty treasures, and it just so happens, I had my first Garage Shopping Saturday of the season.

On Garage Shopping Saturday, I quietly sneak out of the house at 7 am or so, armed with $20 in small bills. I stop and get a cup of coffee, and then start driving around from garage sale to garage sale. I do this without children. Miss Mae and Little Dude are at home with Dad watching Saturday morning cartoons and lounging in their PJ's. This way. I am able to move quickly from one sale to the next, finding lots of treasures. I usually return home by 9:30 or so. It's awesome!

This Saturday, I found a $5 TV stand. It's super heavy and sturdy and just the right size. NOT pretty, but perfect for what I need. It will be showing up in a future post, cause I have plans for it!

I also found this, umm... fireplace screen? Do you think that's what it is?
It was marked $10, but the woman running the garage sale has seen me around and knows I just don't like to pay that much for anything. She cut it down to $8, which for some reason seemed much better to me. I don't think I will be using this in front of the fireplace, but I have some ideas floating around in my head for when I re-do the family room. It's pretty large, has nice wood, and stands up nicely on it's little feet.

I have also had some thrift store luck over the last couple of weeks and have some things I've been longing to show you...

I got this little bunny decoration for $3.99, which seemed like a lot, but I really liked it. I also kinda liked that it was Easter-ish, without being too pastel. Part of me knows that this is super cheesy, but I like it, so I guess it doesn't matter if it is.

I found these two lined baskets for $1.49 each. I have a larger one that matches them (also from a thrift store) and I am planning to use them in the laundry room.

This little chalkboard was $1! How cute is it! The chalkboard slides out of the little wooden box and has a metal handle. I may try to find a spot in the bathroom for this, or, who knows? But for $1, I had to have it! My kids are desperately trying to get this for their own use, but I don't know about that...

Normally, I don't know if I would buy a pillow at a thrift store, but this one was so pretty and different, I decided to go ahead. I don't know when we be able to re-do the family room, but this will go in there. It was $4.99, but it was 40% off everything day. I love that day!

These two buckets are a project in the works for the green bathroom. You'll be seeing them again...

I love vintage linens. This little table runner jumped into my cart and came home with me. I have no idea where she will live, but isn't she sweet? I love the crocheted edging.

This is a candle holder. It says so right on that little label. 49 cents may have been too much, but I loved how chippy it was, and I think I will be able to find something to do with it.

I picked up and put down this giant red goblet a bunch of times. I couldn't decide if it was tacky or if I loved it, so I figured it was both and paid the buck-fifty. I don't think it has found a permanent home in my house yet, but it is currently sitting on my kitchen window sill holding stray bottles of hand sanitizer. Mr. Sahm doesn't hate it, so it gets to stay. I think I will still find a better spot for it, but inspiration hasn't struck yet.

Okay, here is the bomb-shell...

This little 4 inch bottle cost 29 cents. I thought it was kinda cute, and what's 29 cents, right? When I got it home and started looking at it, I found a date- '94. 1994, well that's not old at all, but I went ahead and typed the name of whatever potion used to be in this bottle to Google. The date was the patent, which was 1894! That's cool. I found this exact same bottle on ebay selling for $36!!!!

How cool is that?

Someone suggested that I sell it, but I think I'll keep it. The story alone is worth the $36.

Those are my Thrifty Treasures. I you want to see more, hop over to Southern Hospitality and check out some other peoples' fabulous stuff!

Fantastic treasure in that little bottle!! And what a story to tell, along with it. I love old linens, so your runner is something I really like, also. Thanks for visiting- hope you'll come back again.

Great treasures!!! :) I love the bottle, the candle holder, and the baskets. :) The chalkboard looks vintage to me too. :)

My husband usually works on Saturdays, and if there's a Saturday that he is home, there's no way in heck he'd get up and stay with the kids so I could yard sale. Lucky you! I have to take my girls with me. :s

Thanks for the visit!!

Laura,
I need to come thrifting with you! Wow! What good deals!!!!! Love the red glass piece....for 1.49??? Geesh! There are just too many people here in Mesa AZ that all want the same items...you have to go almost daily to get the good stuff and I don't have the ability to do that. But once in awhile I am lucky! Great day thrifting!
