Everyone, everywhere is making the most fabulous "subway art," and I wanted to make one too! I actually had an idea of what I wanted to do for quite a while, and just waited for the right size
thing to make it on. So, I was out looking through junk, um, treasures at a garage sale and I found this...

It's cute, but I knew it wouldn't match my house, but it was the perfect size for my subway art, so I plopped down my $2, took it home and grabbed a can of black spray paint that was just hanging out in the garage.

Then I gathered all kinds of scrapbook papers in blue and green, and cut them to size. They were just a little too bright, so I used a scrap bit of fabric and dabbed it on a black ink pad, then dabbed and rubbed it over the paper. I've also done this with brown to "age" paper.

Then, when everything was looking good and arranged nicely, I decoupaged it all down with some lovely Modge Podge. I love Modge Podge!
Since my craft room is a TOTAL shambles, and my cricut is buried (seriously, what a shame...), I used stickers. Yes, I did go buy some, but some were left overs from another project. I also found some black cricut letters that weren't used, and I used them. I really wanted to be able to see where things would be before I started sticking, so I cut out each letter still on it's backing and arranged everything.

Then I got to sticking, and gave it a final coat of Modge Podge to seal everything. So here it is, my getting ready subway art to put in the kids bathroom. Just a loving reminder to get in gear and get ready for school.

This is so cute! You did a great job creating something that is meaningful for your family.
I like how you grunged it up.
When I saw the sign in the first picture, I thought (that ain't subway art!) - good thing I read further.
I love your sign....I think I'll put this on my "to do list"...thanks for the inspiration!
FUN! I need one of those - for myself. :D
I"m so glad I'm not the only person who calls it Modge Podge! My husband laughs at me and says "IT'S MOD!" Whatever! Love your subway art!
oh this is fantabulous!1 i love me some subway art and yours is just perfect!!!
I love this! My husband always says, "post it on the wall!" with the chore charts and schedules and everything for everybody, but it can get so cluttered and ugly. Something like this should help!
Laura this is awesome. Why did I never think to create a piece of art to hang in my daughter's bathroom that listed ALL the things she needs to do...because she sure does give me the,"I forgot" excuse way too much. Love this.
This is so cute!! Congratulations of being featured with it on Tater Tots and Jello. Really a cute project and I love how you used scrapbooking paper for the background. Love it!
